Sick Puppy- June 19,2013

I haven't updated this blog for several days for a couple of reasons:

1) Finnegan spent another week at our leader's house because his biting isn't stopping

2) Finny is seriously sick and is currently in the animal hospital, hooked up to IVs and that fun stuff.  We currently don't know what is wrong, but the vets are running lots of test and we should have more information soon.  

As soon as I know how Finnegan is doing and what is wrong with him, I'll post a new entry.  I don't know how long that will take, as the doctor's think he'll have to spend several days there.

Play Date With Friends!- June 7, 2013

Last night I took Finnegan out front to play for a little bit.  While out there, a strange cat I'd never seen before appeared. 

Finnegan didn't mind her too much, but she wouldn't leave!  She just sat there and played with us all night.

My friend Mack wanted to come over and play with Finnegan since she hadn't met him before!  She brought our friend Hannah, and her sister Nealy.  Finny adored Mack!  As soon as she came over he got so excited!  It was incredibly adorable!

He got a bunch of belly rubs from Nealy which he really seemed to enjoy! 

He has met Hannah a few times before, but he was still excited to play with her, as well!

He got tons of attention and had the time of his life!  At one point, he was doing his crazy running around that he escaped from my hold.  He pulled too hard and yanked the leash right out of my hand! As soon as he got away he bolted.  Literally bolted.  He runs so much faster than I ever knew!  It took us a good 2 minutes to catch up to him.  Fortunately, nothing happened and we were able to scoop him up.  I told you he was naughty!

He also did a lot of just staring off majestically into the night....he thinks it's cute (it is).  

Like I said, the cat would not go away!  In fact, it's still chilling on my front porch.

He had so much fun with Mack, Hannah, and Nealy!  He definitely needs to have more play dates with them because they tired him out so much that he slept in until 9:30 am today!  That is so unlike him!  Nevertheless, I enjoyed it! 

Later that night we were playing and he jumped up and bit my face!  I thought he was done with his biting, but apparently not!  Ugh I'm so annoyed.  There are bite marks above both of my eyes!  I'm going to talk to our leader soon and see if she has anymore suggestions because his biting started up again and it's pretty bad!  The worst part is that it's unprovoked.  He just does it!

Kristin and I both had to work today so my mom puppy sat while we went in.  When we got home I took him for a walk to the mailbox (we live in a community where the mailboxes are all in one place.  It takes about 2 minutes to walk there so it's a good little outing for him).  He had a lot of fun with that and he's getting so much better on the leash!  I forgot to use the gentle leader with him on the walk which I'm kind of bumbed about because he needs more practice with that! 

I'm trying to give him as much play time outside as possible because he loves it, and because it makes him tired and he sleeps longer HAHAHA so basically for selfish reasons, lol(: We spent about an hour outside.

I swear all he does is roll around.

He also stole my sunglasses.  Don't worry, I didn't let him have them for very long, just long enough to take a picture of how naughty he is!  

When we came back inside he fell right asleep! 

That was about half an hour ago, and he's still asleep on the floor! 

Lol he's so cute.  He always sleeps next to the piano.  It's adorable! 

 We don't have any plans for the rest of the night, so I'll probably take him out back for some more outdoor time! Tomorrow he turns 12 weeks and he has to go into the vet to get his shots!  Unfortunately, Kristin and I both have work so my mom is taking him alone which sucks cuz I want to be there!  Oh well, I'll get her to take some pictures!

Finnegan is Insane- June 6, 2013

I love Finnegan.  I really do.  But he is insane.  He gets these crazy burst of energy that last for like 10 minutes & when he's done he crashes on the floor.  He's currently passed out from his most recent energy burst. They happen like once every hour. It's beyond annoying.

Finnegan hasn't really learned anything new these past few days.  He's working on "down" right now and it's taking him longer to learn than the other commands.  

He still sleeps in the strangest positions imaginable.

He also sleeps with his tongue out and sucks like he's trying to nurse.  Is that normal for an 11 week old?  I'm not sure but I think it's kind of funny!

Kristin and I are out of school for the year so I'll be spending a lot more time with Finnegan which means more pictures & more blog posts!

Finny is Back!- June 3, 2013

We finally got Finnegan back on Friday and I was SO excited to see him!! I missed him so much!  

Saturday he turned 11 weeks old. HOLY CRAP he is getting so big!  We've been working on using the gentle leader and so far he doesn't mind it too much.  Today I took him to the grocery store for the first time (quick pop in, about 5 minutes) and we practiced the gentle leader.  At first, he was kind of annoyed but he got over it and was fine.  This particular grocery store is one where Triton went often, so the employees know that we have guide dogs, and gave us no trouble for having him there (you would be surprised at what people say sometimes).  

On Saturday we had a club BBQ at our leader's house.  Finnegan got to run around and play with the three other baby puppies in our club, as well as some of the older puppies who are leaving in a few weeks.  He had the time of his life! 

The car ride there took about an hour (she lives in the mountains and we live in the valley). Lol Kristin and Finnegan both look so great in the picture.

When we got home that night, Finny was completely exhausted!

Our leader gave us some ideas on how to help with his biting and they seem to really be helping!  There haven't been any more accidents resulting in bloodshed so that's really good!

We had another puppy meeting today and for whatever reason, Finnegan was extremely distracted by another baby in our club, Gadget.  While I was expecting Finny to be a little naughty, he was basically a wild puppy!  I guess we'll have to work harder on distractions!

Another thing Finnegan has been doing really well on is commands.  Like I've said before, he's already learned come, sit, and do your business.  We've been working on "down" and he's doing great!  He does it most of the time, but it's not perfect yet.  Overall, Finnegan has improved a bunch since we've happened, which is pretty impressive, seeing as we've only had him for 2 weeks(:

Finny is in Trouble- May 29, 2013

So lately Finnegan has been having some problems with biting.  He doesn't do it constantly or anything like that, but if you're playing tug with him he gets way too into it AND BITES.  I don't think he means to hurt you, and he's probably not even doing it intentionally.  But he still does it.  And sometimes it hurts.  A lot.  

Yesterday night I was playing tug with Finny and instead of grabbing the rope, he grabbed my hand.  I fully believe it was an accident.  He's not some malicious little devil.  And let me tell you- that little boy bites hard. AND DEEP. He bit me so hard that my hand was bleeding for a good 5 minutes and a definitely cried....

THAT'S CUZ YOU CAN'T SEE HOW DEEP IT IS. It's basically one tooth hole in my hand that goes pretty deep and it hurts a bunch.  I promise I'm not over exaggerating.

My mom told our club leader about it and she (her name is Martine) decided to take him until Friday.  In exchange we got her cute little puppy, Sandy.  Sandy is a black female born February 23 so she's a few weeks older than Finnegan and considerably larger, too.  She's so sweet! SHE DOESN'T BITE! Hahahaha I'm really hoping Martine can stop his biting because I miss that little boy and don't want to have to stop playing with him for fear that he'll bite me again.

Other than that, Finnegan has made some major improvements!  I think I mentioned this earlier but if not, he has mastered the commands "come" and "sit" which is very exciting, especially since he's only 10 weeks old!  

We set up a YouTube account for him so we could post videos of his achievements and such since this website doesn't let me upload videos directly from my iPad :(

He's also gone several days without any accidents and is still accident free in his crate (except for his first night but that was expected)! His barking at night went away after the first week, but his whining in the morning has yet to stop.  I think once he's more adjusted to the schedule we have him on he'll be ok (that and when his bladder gets bigger lol). 

Finny still sleeps in the most awkward positions imaginable.

Seriously, how can sleeping on piano pedals be the least bit comfortable?!

On Finnegan's Facebook page we have an album of pictures we take every Saturday (his birthday) of him with his favorite toy.  The idea is to see how much he grows weekly, and to be able to see how much he will have grown in the year we had him.  This is his 10 week old picture:

In comparison to the first picture I took of him with this toy, you can definitely tell he's grown a little bit (how sad)!

A Week's Worth of Updates- May 25, 2013

So it's been like a week since I've posted anything.  Lol sorry.

Finnegan has gotten so much better sleeping in his crate.  He doesn't have accidents at night, and his barking is getting better.  He went a few days without having any accidents in the house but the past two days he's had quite a few.  We might take him into the vet to check for a bladder infection because he's going potty like every 10 minutes.  Seriously.  

We didn't do anything super eventful in the past couple of days, though Finnegan did get to meet a bunch of my friends!  Wednesday my mom brought Finny with her to pick me up from my last AP test. Obviously, he was a big hit.

Finnegan especially liked my friend, Annie.  I think he thought her purple hair was pretty cool(; 

He does this hilarious thing where, instead of laying on the ground like a normal dog, he lays like this:

He has also started to sit like this:

I don't even know.

This week was a big week for Finnegan, as we celebrated having had him for one week, as well as his 10 week old birthday!  He turned ten weeks today and I can already tell he's grown a little bit bigger!
